Garden bench
Carpenter Trip Renn was hired by a client to build two curved garden benches, 12- and eight-feet long, using ipé, an African hardwood. Bending the dense hardwood required more than 20 clamps, with dozens of screws to join together the multiple pieces.

Fine Homebuilding tasked me with the creation of a three-dimensional, exploded-view illustration to show the unique bench construction and assembly. Key parts of the bench were rendered photo-realistically in Photoshop while secondary elements were drawn in Illustrator. Plan drawings were also created in Illustrator and a third element, a cutaway view showing how the bench is anchored to the patio, was illustrated in Photoshop.
